Whether you’ve been in business for some time or you’re just starting out, fear of selling your products and/or services can hold your business back from the success you crave. But in order for your business to grow and prosper, you must make friends with the idea of selling and marketing your work.
Here are three tips that can take you from feeling salesy to feeling like you are truly helping someone solve a problem.
If you don’t believe they won’t either. You must passionately believe in what you have to offer and the value you are providing. Think of it this way: let’s say you bought a product or service that made your life easier or improved it in some way…you’d tell everyone right? That’s how you need to think about what you offer and the tremendous value it will bring to your dream client’s life.
Speaking of dream clients…you need to speak to those people and those people only. Not everyone is a good fit for what you have to offer, so don’t waste time trying to convince them they are. Let’s go back to our scenario above and give you an example of what we mean. Suppose you find an amazing mascara and you tell your friend about it, but she doesn’t wear makeup. No matter how much you rave about this fantastic mascara, your friend isn’t going to be interested.
Your products and services aren’t for everyone, so it’s time to start honing in on who is the best fit for what you offer. Why not have clients and customers who love your products and services?
Build trust and meet expectations. It’s vital to be someone that your customers can trust (especially in today’s crowded digital landscape where extravagant claims are made every second!). As you build trust, you also build brand equity, your reputation, and credibility as an expert.
One of the simplest ways to build trust is to meet the expectations of your audience. In other words, follow through on what you say you’re going to do and don’t break your brand’s promise. It takes time to build up that trust and reputation, but it can be destroyed in a keystroke when you don’t do what you say you’ll do.
Using these three tips will not only help you gain clarity in your marketing, but will also give you so much more confidence in selling your products and services! The right people are waiting for you to solve their problem.
